Breastfeeding: One man’s perspective – James Akre

Keynote speaker, Mr. James Akre, joins us from Geneva, Switzerland to present “Breastfeeding: One man’s perspective”. Mr. Akre will present a compelling personal and professional narrative on building a society where all citizens support and encourage breastfeeding through their everyday activities. On Saturday, Mr. Akre moves from vision to tactics as he discusses the process of re-branding breastfeeding promotion in “Changing how we think and talk about breastfeeding”.

Mr. Akre has had 30 years of experience serving in agencies of the United Nations. He spent 24 years at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Recently retired from WHO’s Department of Nutrition, he was a technical writer and served in advisory positions that covered the full spectrum of human nutrition. He participated in drafting and promoting the implementation of the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes; the joint WHO/UNICEF Statement on Breastfeeding, and the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding.
